Domi grew up alongside Excellent, and has the lifetime of hands-on experience and hard-won insight that comes with being raised in the family business. And he’s earned every rung he climbed along the way.

“Excellent [is] family-owned, so it’s been passed down from generation to generation,” Domi explains. “I started working as a worker, then as a technician when I was a teenager. My dad showed me how to run the business, and now I’m the head manager.”

Getting to work in all facets of the home-repair business has given Domi a big-picture understanding of how all parts of a roof specifically and a house in general work together and affect one other. It also means that the Excellent team is equipped and ready to tackle exterior work from the roof itself to the ground it overlooks, and there’s no job too big or small for them to put their name on.

“If it has to do with the exterior of the house, we can do it: from gutter cleaning, repairs, siding, fascia repair, sidewalk repair, steps and stoops,” says Domi.

But roofing is one of the biggest jobs the Excellent team is called in to do. Speaking from both the manual understanding of someone who’s been working on roofs all his life and the practical knowledge of an industry insider, Domi says that those who can wait to repair, upgrade or replace their roofs should hold off for a few months for the optimal repair season, and notes that there have been some surprising trends in what homeowners are looking for these days.

“The perfect time to get a new roof would be when the weather is getting cooler,” he says. “When budgeting for a new roof, you should consider two things: the size of the roof and what materials you’re going to use. You would be surprised to know that metal roofs are making a comeback. If you’re looking to make your house nicer, metal is the way to go.”

And he cannot overemphasize the importance of making sure that you’re trusting one of the most important parts of your home to qualified contractors who approach the job with the appropriate amount of care.

“You want to make sure the company is licensed and insured. You want to make sure the company you choose has experience; you don’t want someone going on the roof that doesn’t have experience and doesn’t know what they’re doing,” he says. “What keeps clients coming back is our attention to detail. We don’t leave a job site unless we know everything is fixed and the customer is satisfied.”

Taking clients’ needs and fears into account is a huge driving factor in Excellent’s pursuit of excellence. All too often, Domi has seen just how emotionally draining it is for homeowners whose roofs are so badly damaged that it’s threatening not only their homes’ interiors but also their loved ones’ safety, and he values every opportunity to be the one bringing that nightmare to an end.

“When someone’s roof is leaking badly and they’re afraid, the best part of the job is knowing that Excellent can reassure them that the problem will be fixed, and the leak will stop,” says Domi. “It makes you feel so good.”

And while Domi loves the particular privilege to be part of that team helping restore a family’s peace of mind along with their home, he is always especially grateful when new clients become regular customers.

“It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that I have a returning client,” he says. “That simply means my team and I did the best we can, and the customer liked our services.”
