Great Estates Avalon
There’s just something about a Shore home and the power it has to bring people together—and that was the goal for this busy family. The owners, a husband and wife from the Philadelphia suburbs who work in the financial industry, have children who are getting older and wanted a central place where everyone could reconnect. Not only would this 5,000-square-foot property in Avalon, N.J., entertain family and friends during the summer, but also on special holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. To achieve that sense of togetherness, the goal was to create an open living space both indoors and outdoors so that everyone could be involved with meal preparation or hanging out watching a sporting event on TV. The outdoor living room with fireplace and the large kitchen island have been two of the favorite spots for adult guests to gather, says the design team from Megan Gorelick Interiors.
And because guests would be frequenting the home, the second floor was designated as the immediate family’s area, with a bedroom for each child plus master suite. On the lower level, the bunk room and guest room are perfect for families visiting with children. In anticipation of wet bathing suits making their way onto the furniture, all fabrics were treated to repel stains. The final result is an upscale and updated take on coastal casual that will offer this family years of relaxation and enjoyment.
