Expertise: Flooring
When it comes to choosing the right flooring that actually fits your lifestyle, it can be tricky to know where to start. Before you make an investment you could potentially regret, it's best to seek the advice of an experienced flooring specialist who can help guide you through the process and help you make an informed decision that you will enjoy for years to come.
We spoke with Rich Lauletta, owner of Haddon Flooring, to find out more about what homeowners need to know when it comes time to choose the right floor to blend seamlessly with their living spaces.
First, what drew you to the world of flooring?
It may sound unusual, but I truly love flooring. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to installation because floors set the tone for the entire home. When they're done right, everything else just works.
What I enjoy most is the transformation. Seeing a space go from dated to elevated—and watching a homeowner's reaction—is incredibly rewarding.
And most of my other ventures are real estate related, so flooring is also very synergistic.
What's the biggest flooring mistake homeowners make today?
Choosing a floor based solely on how it looks online. Floors live hard lives—kids, pets, spills, sunlight, furniture and daily traffic all matter. We often meet homeowners who fell in love with a product on Instagram, only to realize later it wasn't right for how they actually live. Our job is to match design, durability and lifestyle, not just trends.
Is Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) really replacing hardwood?
Not replacing, but evolving how we think about flooring. Hardwood is still timeless and beautiful, but one of the biggest design shifts we're seeing is a move toward one continuous floor throughout the home. Today's premium LVP makes that possible in spaces where hardwood simply isn't practical—like kitchens, mudrooms, basements and homes with kids or pets. High-end LVP now offers incredibly realistic wood visuals, consistent color tones and excellent durability, allowing homeowners to achieve a seamless, cohesive look without worrying about moisture or wear. For clients who love the look of uninterrupted flooring from room to room, LVP has become a very compelling option.
How do homeowners know what flooring works best for their home?
They don't—until they see it in their space. Lighting, wall color, furniture and layout dramatically affect how a floor looks. That's why we offer in-home design consultations. Seeing samples in your actual home eliminates guesswork and prevents expensive regret. Most clients tell us this step alone makes the decision crystal clear.
What flooring options add the most value when selling a home?
Clean, cohesive, neutral floors—done right. New floors consistently deliver one of the highest returns on investment. Buyers love spaces that feel fresh, bright and move-in ready. We frequently work with sellers and realtors to choose products that maximize appeal without overspending, helping homes sell faster and often for more money.
What's the most durable option for busy households with kids or pets?
High-quality LVP and engineered hardwood. For families, durability matters more than anything. Today's LVP resists scratches, spills and heavy wear, while engineered hardwood offers a real-wood surface with added stability. We guide clients toward products that won't have them worrying every time a cup tips over or a dog runs through the house.
How important is professional installation versus DIY?
It's everything. Even the best flooring product will fail if installed incorrectly. Proper subfloor prep, moisture protection, layout planning and transitions make the difference between floors that last 20 years and floors that fail in two. Professional installation protects your investment—and your sanity.
What sets Haddon Flooring apart from big-box stores?
Personal service, better value and real accountability. We're a local South Jersey company with deep experience working in lived-in homes. That means honest guidance (not upselling); competitive pricing without big-box overhead; clean, efficient installations; and working with one team from consultation through completion. Our reputation is built locally—and we treat every home like it's our own.
What's one thing homeowners should do before starting a flooring project?
Have a real conversation with an expert. Flooring decisions impact how your home looks, feels and functions every day. A quick phone call or in-home estimate can save thousands of dollars and years of frustration. Even if you're "just exploring," we're happy to help you think it through.
