Pride in Their Work
Pride in Their Work

For some deck builders, the priority at this time of the year is to rush through outdoor living projects as quickly as possible, with the ultimate goal of moving on to the next job and another payday. They might talk about quality, but it is just a buzzword and not taken very seriously.

But for the owners and staff at Deck Craft Plus, quality is of the utmost importance in everything they do.

“We have made a decision and a commitment as a company to strive for quality,” says Omar Stoltzfus, director of sales and marketing. “We  strive to be the best and make sure the products we use are quality, the service we provide is quality and the craftsmanship is quality.

“As a team, that is something we are committed to on every project. We bring quality to every  neighborhood that we work in, which brings value to the community.”

Located in Pennsylvania, Deck Craft Plus also brings stunning outdoor living spaces to homeowners in New Jersey and Delaware. Customers looking to add a deck to their yard appreciate the company’s  design experience  along with its attention to detail in building a superior deck that will last for years to come.

In addition to building brand-new decks, Deck Craft Plus also specializes in redecking for those who have an aging deck in need of a makeover.

“We are seeing decks that are 10 to 15 years old that people want to upgrade,” Stoltzfus says. “There are a lot of decks out there made of pressure-treated wood that the builder put on the house, but the homeowner now wants something with lower maintenance.”

Deck Craft Plus will send someone out to examine the deck and make sure it is structurally sound, with a large focus on whether the foundations are rotted. If the foundation passes inspection, the old deck can be replaced with updated materials, such as PVC decking from Wolf, Azek or Clubhouse and railing from Superior Plastic or Key-Link, or other products.

In certain cases, amenities such as a pavilion roof or pergola, an outdoor kitchen and a fire pit can be added as well, although Stoltzfus stresses that an existing structure cannot always handle the extra weight.

“At some point you are better off starting fresh, due to rotten foundations, or if you want to redesign your backyard to fit your needs better,” he says. “It comes down to the individual deck and the customer’s situation and budget.”

One feature that is always in high demand for both new projects and re-decking is a shade element. Stoltzfus believes that roofs and pergolas each have their benefits.

“Some people just want the partial shade and a pergola will do that,” he says. “A roof completely blocks out the sun and also gives you the option of screening in the sides to give you a bug-free zone. It comes down to each individual’s preference and situation.

“There are also louvered pergolas available that you can open and close with the push of a button. If you go with that, you can get the best of both worlds. That’s a product that came out in the last few years and as they continue to improve it, it will be a good option for homeowners.”

Overall, Stoltzfus has seen homeowners push the envelope with outdoor design and believes things will continue trending that way, especially with an experienced company like Deck Craft Plus guiding customers every step of the way.

We are seeing more of a trend where people want to create an outdoor living area to host family and friends and just a place to get away and relax after a day’s work.

Creating that enjoyable space for loved ones to escape the daily grind never gets old for the team at Deck Craft Plus.

“Every deck is unique, and here at Deck Craft we really enjoy bringing a quality product to our customers,” Stoltzfus says. “It’s always amazing to me from when we first meet a client and find out what they’re looking to do and go over all the details, and then go back when the job is completed and see the finished product. It’s incredible to see the difference, and to know we’ve transformed another backyard and given somebody a beautiful deck to hang out on with family and friends is a great feeling.”
